Fungal Culture Pet Ringworm Test
There is a fungal culture that can be performed by your Vet and we thought you might be interested to know a little about it.
Fungal Culture -- This is the most definitive test. In this test, a toothbrush is used to "comb" the suspect area of the skin and the bristles are then gently "stabbed" into a fungal culture plate.
The culture plate is examined daily for up to 21 days. Pathogens produce pale or white growths. These are then examined under a microscope to diagnose the fungus. Depending on the media that is used, there may be a color change in the media if the fungus is present. Any growth is then examined under a microscope to diagnose the fungus.
